Tokyo

Tokyo

“I am in the mood to dissolve in the sky”, she whispered into the wind, quoting one of her favourite writers.
The man had already fallen asleep. She could no longer remember his name. Haruto? Haruki? Or just Haru? Something like that. Haru-something snored loudly, the sound competing with the hum of the traffic somewhere underneath her feet.
She explored the night-time Tokyo. It amused her how different the city looked after dark. All the greyness was gone and instead the sea of neon lights decorated the view, making it look like a bed of gemstones.
“Do you ever hear the wind sing?” she asked Haru-something in her poor Japanese but the sleeping man did not respond. And she wasn’t really expecting a response.
She smiled into the sparkle of the night. The world curved somewhere down below but for now there was nothing but this moment and this hotel room that felt detached from the rest of the world.
When Haru-something opened his eyes, it was still dark out. The late winter wind was blowing in from the open window. He scanned the room with his eyes but the woman he had entered with was nowhere to be seen. She probably had just left after he fell asleep.
“I am… in the mood to… dissolve in the sky”, Haru-something whispered in English. He didn’t know why he said it. He didn’t even fully understand the words but for some reason that sentence was stuck in his head.
